I've always felt it was a bit of a shite that my birthday is so close to Christmas and New Year's. We always look forward to special days in the year so that the 365 days of each year is made more entertaining, more exciting, easier to get through... and having special days spread out evenly throughout the year would make the year more bearable because there would be nicely spread out lulls and high points.

The end of the year is always packed with excitement because there's the whole lead-up to Christmas, and barely after recovering from Christmas there's New Year's, and 4 short days after that would be my birthday. It makes it seem like it's been one long, tiring celebration, and by the time my birthday looms (arghh), everyone's just kinda tired, and probably feeling broke but having to spend another 20 bucks on a birthday present for me. Boo to you, 5 January.

But thank you to all my friends and family for loving me enough to annually save some energy (and money) from the year end celebrations to celebrate my birthday with me.

I remember when I was younger, my birthday always felt really sian because it was usually in the first week of the reopening of school, and it was never really the same having early birthday celebrations so that I wouldn't be kept out late on a school night, and having a party on the closest weekend to my birthday was also not that fun because it was always the start of the school year and everyone was settling in for another year of academic woes. I'm glad that for the past few years, my birthdays have been pretty fabulous (sure, there was uni, but who cared about that, really???). They have become less of a "Woohoo, presents and party!" thing and become more of a "I'm so glad they remembered, gosh, I have the BEST friends!" thing.

This year was simple. I stayed home with a good book, and my mum took a halfday off work and came home for tea with me. In the evening I had a fabulous, noisy, unhealthy chinese dinner with my family, godparents, favourite aunties, and grandmas which ended up with 11 off us polishing off about 45 durian snowskin puffs in total for dessert. And after that, we went off to karaoke. Saturday, I had the girls over for dinner and that also turned out to be a rowdy affair. I don't even have any pictures to mark my celebrations, which is strange cos I am a photowhore. But I guess sometimes, a camera only gets in the way of enjoying the time in its full, uninhibited glory.

So thank you for the friendship, wellwishes, and (hehe) presents, loves. They're much appreciated and I love you all!
