A belated birthday post

My birthday this year is/was fantastic. Rather than being a one-day-only celebration, it felt almost like a week long celebration, starting on Sunday 2nd January with the "Relatives Party" and moving on to Monday 1st January with the "Friends Party"...... (The following is going to sound very much like a log of daily activities, but I just want to remember this and the best way is to post it here).....

Sunday 2nd January
A ton of my relatives came over for my party, which was really sweet of them cos it was raining really heavily. Armed with presents and angpaos (*grin*) to boot! Daddy and Mummy were really sweet, they put in sooo much effort to cook and prepare everything. Then when I wanted to help, they said never mind it's ok it's your birthday. What did I do to deserve such great parents? So Mummy especially, slaved away in the kitchen on Saturday and Sunday, churning out Laksa, chicken wings, Hokkien Mee, stewed vegetables, and sooo much more stuff. All that work! And all of it was snuffed up in 2 hours. A fabulous day, which ended in an evening of hanging with my godbrothers, their kids, and my godparents. They stayed all the way till night, so it was a special extended party for me, cos there seems to be less and less time to spend with them these days... =)

Monday 3rd January
Party from 7pm till late! Woot! It was great having all my friends (that means you!) over for the fabulous meal provided by Kriston Caterers, as well as Mummy dearest! Seems my Mum has found many a fan among you guys, with her fabulous-tasting Kongbak that charmed the socks of Ian and Angie especially. Hahaha. Sorry if i didn't get to spend that much time with you guys, cos there were different groups there. *hug* Thank you all for the lovely presents, you guys seem to know me really really well! hehe. The evening was made even sweeter by the attendance of those that came directly from the Exco-retreat, cos you guys must have been really tired but still cabbed down from Jurong! Shooo shweeet. =) Mahjong after that till 4am with Sean, Gab, and Matt was incredibly fun too. A party would not have been a party without all you wonderful friends. But once again, it's also all thanks to my parents for putting in so much effort just making sure that it would be a wonderful evening. Daddy sitting outside the house to chase away any silly cats who wanted to wreck the buffet; Mummy cooking her special Kongbak and chicken wings etc; or my bro and sisinlaw for coming home early from work so they could help out... all these are little little gestures that I truly appreciate.

Tues 4th January
Didn't have any plans, but God still sent wonderful people to make the prelude to 5th January wonderful. Lester called to offer me his present of a french film with him (Fanfan la Tulipe) at Francaise Alliance... which was really good! The film was lighthearted, funny, and very entertaining. Loved it! And especially love Lester for taking time off his busy work schedule to go out with me. Then after, met Melch, Angie, and Charlin at Grapevine for drinks. Thought the lovely evening was going to end, but Angie-babbyyy came over to my place to check out all the prezzies i got from Monday's party.. and we ended up bullying Netto into coming over to bring us out for supper! Haha. So we spent a good 2 hours sitting at Punggol Nasi Lemak with our mee-kia, chicken wings, and uh.. interesting conversation. Then Netto being the nice guy he is, sent Angie all the way home. I went along for the car ride, and it is very nice to drive along the dark roads with the drizzle falling lightly at 3am with friends. *grin* What a fabuloussss start to my birthday.

Wed 5th January
Actual day! Can't run away from the big 21 anymore. (Except that I've been deluding myself by saying I'm Twenteen One.) Slept till noon, but it was a sleep that was interrupted with many many wonderful "Happy Birthday" SMSes from friends and family. SO SWEEET! It was a day of taitai-ing with taitais Mello, Charkwa, Angie, and Melch. Was first presented with a pretty pink flower from Mello! *HUG!* Then we went to Equinox for high tea, and it was uber fun! *squeal* The novelty of eating 70 floors up lasted all the way for me. I don't know if it was the super yummy buffet spread, the fact that I was so much nearer to the clouds than I usually am, or being with good friends that made me feel really really happy. I think it's a combination of all 3. We probably got a sugar high from all the chocolate cake (mmmmmmmm...) and icecream, and I would also use that as an excuse for taking all the pictures that have thus far been labled "kinky", "sleazy", "porn" or "nose-bleed inducing" (my fave comment) by members of the audience. *wink* Whatever it is, it was definitely a different kind of fun, hamming it up for the camera in the beautiful powder room of Equinox. What I would give to own a room like that! And the day didn't end at that... Noooooo... =) Had a good dinner with my family at Copthorne King after that too. I was stuffed from high tea, so I couldn't really eat much. But it was very nice hanging out with my family, complaining about the cold, and having Mum tell me my skirt was too short but she would refrain from nagging cos it's my birthday. Haha. Headed over to Zouk for Mambo after that with Mello, Angie, Kester, Netto, Am, Val, Ian, Jamjam, and Jon after that. Had a great time too! Angie sure knows how to make things more exciting. We spotted a cute angmoh guy in a red shirt, and moved in a little closer to get a better view. THEN that biatch pushed me, and I lost my balance and hurtled towards him! Oh gosh it was mortifying. All I could do was apologise and make a run for it. Angie: You watch out next time! Bah. A fabulous fabulous birthday still. *grin!!!*

After stuffing our faces at Equinox

Thurs 6th January
Nothing to do with my birthday, but I'll just blog it here for convenience. Went to Eng Seng for a superrrr dinner with Nat, Jean, Teresa, Maurice, Xiuwen, and Joel. We ate 4 crabs! As well as Youtiao, sambal Kangkong, Venison, Hokkien Mee, chicken wings, and lala! Fabbbbb dinner. Still feeling quite bloated now. Great conversation over dinner as we stuffed our faces too. Gonna miss these dinners when Joel goes for exchange in 2days, cos then there'll be nobody to organise these gatherings. =l

Guess who's dinner remnants? Think: skinniest one present

Thank-yous:
~ To Daddy and Mummy, for giving so much of time, effort, money, and most importantly, love , in ensuring that my 21st birthday would be a wonderful lasting memory.
~ To Peanut (it's a nickname!) my maid, for working so hard in the kitchen, helping Mum out with the cooking, and doing so much washing until her fingers were wrinkly.
~ To Alvi, for coming to my party despite knowing that you'd know really few people. This is just one of the many many many reasons that I love you so, my dearest, oldest friend of 15 years.
~ To all my friends, for having been so sweet and so sincere in everything -- choosing the presents you know I'd love, writing msgs that really come from the heart in the bday cards, and for making my 21st really wonderful. I hope I can do the same for you.

This has been a really long post, kudos to you if you've made it all the way! =) By the way, I don't have that many pics of my party on Monday, so if you were one of the people snapping pictures that night, pls send me the links to your webshots so I can get the pics! Thank you!
